Clinical Faculty Appointments

University of Hawaiʻi Clinical Faculty Appointment

At the University of Hawaiʻi, Clinical Faculty within the Department of Medicine are integral to the education and development of medical students and residents. These professionals, who often maintain active clinical practices, provide hands-on training and mentorship that directly enhances the students' learning experience. Clinical Faculty members are initially appointed for a one-year term, after which their performance is reviewed by the Clinical Faculty Personnel Committee (CFPC). Based on this review, the committee determines whether to extend their appointment for one, two, or three years. While anyone may propose an individual for Clinical Faculty membership, the CFPC must approve all appointments. The selection process involves a comprehensive evaluation of the candidate's qualifications, teaching contributions, and alignment with the department's needs. Renewals are subject to the CFPC’s assessment and require final approval by the Department Chair.
